I’m Dr. KLeigh (Karen Schroeder, Ed.D.), a Texas educator with a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. My path to the classroom has been shaped by both creativity and discipline, beginning with ballet as a child, where I was invited into the chorus of a professional company at sixteen. In school, I balanced the arts with athletics, playing basketball and earning a college scholarship that helped me achieve my bachelor’s degree.

At twenty-eight, I began training in martial arts, eventually earning a 6th degree black belt in Kajukenbo and competing at the state and world level, where I earned multiple titles before shifting into coaching and judging. The focus, perseverance, and determination I developed through these pursuits continue to guide my work as both an educator and an author.

Professionally, I’ve taught math, worked in special education, and served as an educational diagnostician. I hold certifications in mathematics (grades 4–12), special education (EC–12), and ESL, and I’ve trained extensively in strategies to support diverse learners — from English language learners to students with dyslexia and autism. My background also includes work in curriculum design and training for adults in corporate learning and development, where I learned the importance of making content approachable for all learners.

That passion inspired me to create Animal Adventures in Learning — a series of storyooks, activities, and practice sheets that bring math concepts to life through a lovable cast of animal friends. My goal is to help children learn step by step, building confidence and joy along the way, while offering parents and teachers resources they can trust.

When I’m not teaching or writing, you might find me walking the trails of my neighborhood, participating in local races, or even tackling marathons — I recently completed my first quarter marathon! I also enjoy knitting, crocheting, and painting — creative outlets that spark the same imagination I bring into every lesson and story.
